Especially if u face any health problems and have to visit any hospital, need for English speaking doctors becomes very critical.

Best beaches near Tokyo

Do you know what are the best beaches near Tokyo? Tokyo is close to scenic beaches which cater to young and adults equally. During summer season these beaches would be bustling with people enjoying the scenic views, water sports and beach parties.

Not into reading? Watch this video on my channel wanderthirst.

Tokyo has beautiful beaches within an hour or hour and half of travel. These beaches allow for swimming, sunbathing and many are also good for water sports like surfing and windsurfing kayaking etc. During summer season (July and August) most beaches are equipped with public toilets, showers and changing rooms, beach huts with delicious food, drinks and rental shops which provide all the gear you need. In some beaches these amenities are free and in some they come at some cost. Also lifeguards are present during the summer season.

Even though there are couple of beaches within few minutes from Tokyo, those are not suitable for swimming due to its water quality and volcanic black sand. Will list those at the end below.

Top of the list is the most beautiful white sand beach in Shizuoka.

1. Shirahama Beach, Shizuoka prefecture

It is about 90mins from Tokyo, relatively farthest, but it's worth the travel.
Shizuoka prefecture(Izu penensula) is a home to a number of beautiful beaches. Most of them can be found in the east area. Shirahama beach is recognized as one of the most popular beaches especially among young people and surfers. It boasts a white sandy beach.

Shirahama means white sand, and the beach is aptly named. This is easily the most beautiful beach within a day’s travel. Sunset here is a feast to the eyes.

Izu has many such beautiful beaches and lot of places to see. This itself would take couple of days to cover most of the attractions. Would cover those activities in a separate video.

How to reach:

Most convenient way to travel to Shizuoka is to
Take the JR special express called “Odoriko” which directly takes you to Izukyu Shimoda station. Take the bus leaving from bus stop 9 and it is about a 10 to 15-minute ride.

Next on the list is

2. Zushi beach, Kanagawa prefecture

Zushi is the most popular beach just under an hour away from Tokyo, which makes it perfect for a day trip. During the peak summer season, this beach can get very crowded though!

The waves here are subtle and the sea is usually calm but it gets a lot of breeze. Due to this,
especially during weekends, you would see lot of people enjoying water sports like wind surfing and kayaking.

It is the most lively beach with lot of beach parties happening frequently.
Though, This beach has strict rules regarding Tattoos, alcohol from outside, and loud music sound systems are all banned. But don't worry, It has lot of beach huts which serve tasty food, drinks and lively music.

How to reach:

15 minutes from the east exit of Zushi Station on the JR Yokosuka Line or the JR Shonan Shinjuku Line

Next one is my favorite, and kind of hidden gem.

3. Isshiki beach, Hayama, Kanagawa prefecture

Just 15-minute bus ride away from busy Zushi lies this pretty Isshiki beach. It was once voted by CNN as one of the world’s best beaches. It is a calm, scenic beach with crystal-clear waters. If you want to relax and soak in nature this is the one for you.
Adding to the beauty, one side of this beach is rocky and lawn area making it a picture perfect location. INTA kind of location.

It also has lot of beach huts and can get fairly lively in the evening during the swimming season. Hayama is a home to Imperial Villas as well as home to Japan’s rich and famous. This beach is located right next to Imperial villa.

How to reach:

From Zushi, Take bus #12 at bus stop “3” bound for “Hayama and get off at Isshiki kaigan

4. Yuigahama beach, Kamakura

Probably this is the nearest beach from Tokyo and is one of the most popular beaches in Kanagawa prefecture. It is also popular among surfers.

This beach is shallow, and the waves are relatively calm during the swimming season, so children can also enjoy swimming safely.

How to reach:

20 min walk from Kamakura Station or 5 min walk from Yuigahama Station

5. Onjuku Beach, Chiba prefecture

It has everything you need to escape from city life - breath taking views, tasty local food and water sports. Considered one of the best surfing beaches on the Chiba coast.

This beach is located 10-minute walk from Onjuku station.

How to reach:

- Wakashio limited express from Keiyo Line platform of Tokyo Station. But it is costly option as extra limited express faair has to be paid.
- Keiyo Line of Tokyo Station to Chiba Station and then switch to the Sotobō Line for Onjuku.

As I said in the beginning, beaches within Tokyo which are good for a leisure walk but not so suitable for swimming are:

Kasai Rinkai park beach

If u wanna take a stroll and enjoy the cool breeze by the sea this beach is recommended. Also sunsets here are very pleasant and colorful. Rinkai park has lot of other attractions like Tokyo Sealife park and Ferry wheel etc.

Odaiba beach

If u simply want to have fun with kids and enjoy time by the beach, you can visit this beach. Odaiba which is a man made island has lot of other attractions though, which makes it a perfect day trip from Tokyo.

Snowfall in Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo, the capital city of Japan is one of the cleanest cities in the world. It is also very colorful throughout the year across all four seasons. Usually winters are very cold with temperatures going negative occasionally. But does it snow in Tokyo? if it does, how often is the snowfall?

Many parts of Japan experiences medium to heavy snowfall in an year, especially northern regions encounter heavy snowfall. But snowfall is not a common site in Tokyo. In a typical year it may snow two to three times in an year. When it snows, it is usually wet snow which melts away before it can really stick. So you don't see canopies of snow forming on the ground that often. It is only once in last four years I had seen dense snow here.

Watch this interesting video on Tokyo's snowfall in my channel wanderthirst .

Why should you blog

It is often I was asked this question by my friends, why do I blog? Hearing this, at first I thought what a stupid question to be asked? Then I gave a little thought to it and felt that it’s actually not that stupid question and made some sense to me!!  Why do I blog?  Or to put it objectively, why should you blog?

The first answer came to my mind is, I blog because I like doing it. Fine, sounds good, but why do I like doing it? After probing further on the question, I came up with below sensible answers.

I blog because
  • It gives me a chance to express myself
  • It unveils the creative side of me
  • It hones and polishes my writing skills.
  • I can inspire people through my writing!
  • Blogging is in vogue, and I don’t want to be out of fashion!
  • It enables me to generate revenue out of it. Of course it depends on the uniqueness, quality of the content.
  • It lets me make writing as career over the longer run.
  • Writing is good habit and developing good habits is the Holy Grail of many successful people in the world.

Well all these answers do justify the question: why should you blog? But the real reason for me to blog is: Writing is my passion, and passion is the driving force in life. Passion is the fuel which runs the vehicle of life. Writing gives me freedom, freedom which knows no boundaries, limits. It gives me liberty to convey my thoughts, feelings, experiences freely.

Why only blogging?

Blogging is one of the ways to achieve above mentioned things. It is simplest platform to jot down your thoughts freely and get the unbiased  feedback from everyone around the world.

I want to blog, but don’t know where to start and how ?

Don’t worry, you are not alone in that space.
Pick a topic of your interest which is useful to others or can inspire people.
Come up with unique name which is apt to your topic of interest.
Use the free services like blogspot, worpress. Create your blog, start writing and what next? Explore the rich features which these blogging services offer.

Still feeling hesitant, don’t worry; read my post fear factor which enables you to overcome the starting hurdles.

Sachin Tendulkar - Playing it my way

Sachin Tendulkar, undoubtedly one of the greatest cricketer, finest human being, the game of cricket has ever witnessed pens down his life story as a cricketer in his book 'Sachin Tendulkar- Playing it my way'. His life clearly shows and sets an example to every sports person in the world, how a true sports person should be(in and out of the field).

Sachin narrates his story with humility and good sense of humour. Reading his story in his own words is an overwhelming experience. Greatest cricketer he is, and will remain so for ever, humbly describes incidents in his life giving due credit to everyone who had helped him to become what he is.

Early chapters of the book talks about Sachin’s childhood, what drew him to cricket and who are all the key people in encouraging him to become a cricketer. He mentions the major role played by his Brother Ajit and his coach Ramakant Achrekar.

His childhood is best example of how constant practice can work wonders, how dedication and hard work defines one’s life. This is also a best example for one of the aspect of most successful people:"doing the same things daily” as mentioned by Robin Sharma( leadership expert and author of the many inspirational books including ‘The monk who sold his Ferrari’) in his leadership workshop ‘Productivity Unleashed & Extreme Achievement Formula'.
Here is the related excerpt from the book.

In fact, in my first year at Shardashram I played fifty-five practice matches during the summer break of sixty days. My summer sessions used to start at 7.30 a.m. and I’d bat for two hours, split into five net sessions. All of these sessions were rigorous and required intense concentration. After the morning session, I would go straight into the practice match, which would end at 4.30 p.m., then my evening session would start at 5 p.m., after only a thirty-minute break. During the break Sir would often give me some money to go and have a vada pav (a popular Mumbai fast food) or a soft drink as a treat.
Between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. I’d have five more net sessions, before a final session of fifteen minutes”

Then he goes on to narrate about his stint with international cricket. The challenges he had faced from the time he has started his international career as a 16 years old boy against Pakistan in 1989, to the time he has played the last ball of his career in the year 2013. He mentions that He always cherishes the times when he got his first international hundred in the year 1992 in Australia at the SCG. He also proudly remarks that he was the first oversees player to get selected to play for Yorkshire county cricket club.

Sachin narrates the cricket matches he had played chronologically in each year, the records he had achieved and the friends he had made during the process. He also refers to the things which have not gone according to his wish, for example the selection of the team when he was captaining the Indian team. The unpleasant incident when Rahul Dravid decides to declare the test innings against the agreed game plan when Sachin was on 194 not out, depriving him of double century.

He gives so much credit to his event mangers, the doctors who has diagnosed him and always been there during the difficult times of his injuries. He modestly appreciates the support he got from his family, His father, mother, brother, wife and his children. He also mentions how he regretted not spending enough time with his wife(Anjali) and kids(Sara, Arjun) and missing the important events in their life.

His farewell speech (given in appendix) at Wankhede stadium, Mumbai is one of the emotional and honest speeches I have ever heard. One should read it to understand how he remembers, never forgets to give credit to each and every person who has played a part in his life.

To know Many more interesting things like his achievements, what he wished to do after retirement etc. one should read this book. Overall 'Sachin Tendulkar- playing it my way' is one of the most inspiring autobiographies I have ever read and It’s a must read for every cricket lover.

Fear factor

Do you get tensed before doing any task and end up goofing up that task?  Before you make any presentation or giving a talk, do you think about it so much and end up screwing it up?  Do you get nervous before going to a new place and fear about it?

If you have any of the above qualms, then the reason for all such feelings is FEAR.  Fear of the unknown, fear of what’s going to happen,  which brings the person down, and makes him inefficient. The amount of fear in a person which can hinder the person’s efficiency can be called as fear factor. This fear factor often works in a destructive way if  you don’t  realize. This fear factor can be turned in to constructive nature by putting a conscious effort.

The best way to kill the fear is by Action – David J Schwartz  in the book Magic of thinking Big.

Very true, the best way u can get over fear is to take action about it. For example, if you have a stage fear to deliver talks or make presentations in front of the audience, the best way you can get over it is to give more talks and presentations. This initial fear is only a psychological barrier. It only takes that starting hurdle to be crossed to reach great heights in life. Once you take that first step and fight that fear it can never ever affect you again. This first step increases your confidence which can work wonders for you  in your next talk.

Fear factor actually is very helpful and good, if you make it work for you in a constructive way. Take the same example of giving talks, having fear that how am I going to deliver it, taken in a positive way, makes  you work more towards it, makes you analyze your audience and  guess their expectations from the talk  which in turn makes you prepare your content of the talk that can impress the audience. This same fear makes you work hard to excel in that task.

The word FEAR itself gives us inspiration to overcome it as mentioned below:
F - Fight
E - Endlessly
A - As to
R - Restore confidence

A thought can change the day

Single thought can change or shape the whole day. A thought usually triggers another thought leading to a chain of thoughts. If you start your day with a positive thought, that will trigger another positive thought and in turn leads to lot of positiveness in you. A positive thought makes you feel good, and another positive thought added to it increases that good feelings, which in turn makes you more energetic, confident and make you look forward for what the day has to offer for you. Even if you get few glitches in between, it won't effect you much as you will take them in right spirit and move ahead. This is because you are filled with positive energy because you started your day with a positive thought.

The same goes with the negative thoughts, If you start the day with a negative thought it will lead to more negative thoughts. In that process, you will become more depressed, will lose enthusiasm in life and become dull. It will have effect on each and everything you do on that day. It effects the relations with people you interact, your productivity etc. More importantly, it effects your own personality.

Negative thoughts are hazardous, positive thoughts are energy boosters.
Negative thoughts lead to the doom of the person, positive thoughts leads a person to greater heights.

Here is a small story to emphasise this point.
Many years ago two salesmen were sent by a shoe manufacturer to Africa to investigate and report back on market potential.

The first salesman reported back, "There is no potential here - nobody wears shoes."
The second salesman reported back, "There is massive potential here - nobody wears shoes."
This simple short story provides one of the best examples of how a single situation may be viewed in two quite different ways - negatively or positively.
Here, exactly the same words: "nobody wears shoes" are deciphered in totally different and opposite ways. This clearly proves how positiveness in a person can work wonders for him.

Positive thoughts develop positive attitude in a person, and this attitude is contagious! So always start a day with a positive thought and make your day fruitful.

Wish you all a very happy Deewali

Deewali, a festival of lamps which is one of the major festivals in India, in Hinduism. Deewali signifies the triumph of good over evil. It also signifies shedding of darkness and spreading light. Spiritually it means awareness of inner light, inner light which can oust the darkness inside us.

Its been quite long since i have posted something on this blog. May be because i was too much occupied with work!, or because of my laziness! or wat ever was the reason. Today, on this Deewali day, i wanna burst/crack that obstruction and continue writing posts regularly.

On this Deewali, I am gonna ignite the light of my future, burning the oil of laziness contained in lamp of my life.

Wishing u all a very happy bright n crackling Deewali..

How often do you sharpen your Axe

Recently i have read this book by name "You Can Win" by Shiv Khera. Even though its not usual type of books i read, i just took the book from my friend and started reading just for the heck of reading. As i started reading the book i must admit, i fell in love with the book. Its one of the excellent books i have read.

The book is driven by very well thoughts of the author and he has put them in a very simple manner. The book has many significant, powerful, simple analogies which will make you wear your thinking hat and make you realize your positives, negatives, dreams. It will help in focusing on your goals and makes you determinant in achieving them by devising a recipe for yourself.

This book has many useful and interesting stories, out of which i felt the below one is very apt for IT professionals.
John, a woodcutter, worked for a company for five years but never got any raise. the company hired Bill and within a year he got a raise. Then John resented Bill's getting a raise after only a year and went to his boss to talk about it. The boss said, "You are still cutting the same number of trees you were cutting five years ago. We are result oriented company and would be happy to give you a raise if your productivity goes up". John went back, started hitting harder and putting in longer hours but he still wasn't able to cut more trees. he went back to his boss and told him his dilemma. The boss told John to go talk to Bill. "May be there is something Bill knows that you and I don't". John asked Bill how he managed to cut more trees. Bill answered, "After every tree i cut, i take a break for two minutes and sharpen my axe. When was the last time you sharpened your axe?"

When was the last time you sharpened your axe? Past glory and education don't count for much. we have to continuously sharpen the axe.

As IT field is very vulnerable, one has to keep updating their skills regularly. Because the Technology of today May become Trash of tomorrow. So In this competitive world,to keep yourself in the race you have to keep updating the knowledge. You have to keep sharpening your axe regularly. Time and again you have to ask this question for yourself, and then take necessary steps.

Passion is the driving force in life

When life doesn't offer what we want in life, what are we gonna do? Are we gonna just obey and lead a life as it takes? or mold it in a way we want it ? How many of us just say that " this is all i have got in life and nothing can be changed " and live a compromised life? Not many i guess right?!! because life is such a precious thing given by god and it will be a shame if we just waste life without achieving something and lead it without enjoying it!

Then what is main factor which really provides us hope and helps in achieving what we want in life. Yes, its the Passion a person has in him/her which is the driving force in achieving what we want in life. By Passion i mean: Zeal , enthusiasm. Passion is the one which ignites fire in person. Its the fuel which drives them forward in life. It makes anyone achieve what they want in life and it surpasses pain they experience in the process. Without passion we don't live the life, rather we just exist ! passion adds Spice to the life.
With passion comes meaning to life, with passion comes hope, with passion comes determination, with passion comes pain, with passion comes success, with passion comes satisfaction.

Some people will be lucky to have their passion as their career. But not everyone is lucky enough!! But that doesn’t stop them in achieving what they want in life. Its only possible because of their passion. Passion has such a magical power , it makes the impossible a possibility. It brings the non-existing into existence.

Different people are passionate about different things. To say few examples:
The goddess of compassion Mother Teresa is the best example of people who has Passion to help others, and passion to serve the poor and needy. The king of search engine Google is the result of few passionate engineers. Lord of the Rings, Troy, Gladiator etc. are few examples of a passionate movie Technicians. The 7 wonders of the world are the result of the Passionate people.

In essence, Passion is the driving force in life. Realize your Passion in life and march ahead.

Transitions in Life

Every one in their lives will surely undergo many transitions. Right from the stage we are infants till we die these transitions are part n parcel of our life. The first transition in our life is the transition from innocent infant stage to the cheeky child stage, then from a playful child to a student life, then changing schools, moving from school to college, college to university, then student life to responsible working life, being single to becoming a married person, and so on....
In the process of these transitions we may loose many things very near and dear to us as well as gain many things. Take the example of moving from school to college, here we lose many of our old friends and may have to leave our parents, place n stay in hostel in a new location, amidst new people, and in the process we gain lot of new friends, and meet wonderful people.

Even though there are many transitions in life, according to me, there are two
major/important transitions a person undergoes in life.

1) Change from College life to Working life.
2) From being bachelor to a married person.

About the second one I am not the correct person to talk about. Because I haven’t reached that phase in my life still. First transition is the one I am currently going through. Even though this transition is not new for me (because I had been to this transition earlier also!), the conditions are totally different from the previous instance.

Recently many thoughts were going through my mind about this, disturbing me, making me mad at times!, and giving rise to mixed feelings, feelings that I am missing something and also at the same time gaining something more worthy. So I decided to come out of this confusing state of mind and put a break to these uneasy feelings. After a serious thought, I found many answers to this. If I look at the both phases (college life n working life) I could find many similarities and also differences.

As far as the learning is concerned, it’s a continuous process throughout our lives. However, what we study and learn in our college life is important because that’s gonna fetch us marks/grades and also shape our future. Similarly what we learn in the initial phase of working life will lay the foundation for our future position.

In College life we have full freedom, time for fun, n its enjoyable and cherishable, whereas working life is little restricted, added responsibilities, and could become monotonous at times!. In College life we are dependent (financially) on someone, and in working life totally independent, we make our penny.

Many feel we lose our freedom once we get into working life. That’s true to some extent! In college we can bunk classes when ever we want n enjoy life, but obviously while working we can’t afford to do that, because we are getting paid for every hour we work and have responsibility of finishing the work in time. Work is the one which is fetching us bread and butter. I.e. we earn our bread and butter by working, whereas in college someone else is paying for our bread n butter. So obviously we got to be more responsible. Not only the matter of money, college life is going to decide only our own future, no one or nothing else is affected by it. But in case of working life our performance is not only gonna affect us, but in effect gonna effect the firm v work for also.

But are we really losing out on our happiness here? Is it because in college we have variety of things to do, not only just studying? But in working life we feel bored of doing the same kind of work??

One thing everyone has to remember is many things in life never remain the same, even as we grow up our tastes, likings change. The joy we got as a child playing with toys, seeing cartoons, won’t experience the same kind of joy now. Simply because we have changed with time, and life also changes with time. Obviously we can’t expect the same kind of things in every phase of our lives. If life remains same for ever then what’s the fun?!! So changes in life are must and unavoidable. The important thing to note here is once we start enjoying what we do then life becomes different, looks totally new, appealing, and refreshing.

After all this brain storming, I realized an important truth of life. That is:

Key to Happiness in life is Enjoying What ever we do!

A place for fun frolic

Its been really a while i made a post!!, was busy with my academic schedule. Anyways if i ask anyone of you what is the first thing which comes to your mind when i ask about your college life?? I am sure many people agree with the answer: the fun u had in the college life , the times u hangout with friends, playing pranks with them.etc. If i ask what place in campus comes first to your mind, different people may have different answers. But majority of the people will agree upon "the campus canteen or restaurant " what ever u call it.

Yes my friends, the most precious moments of our college life, or in fact most fun filled or sad moments of our college life are spent in that canteens. Be it sipping chai or coffee , playing pranks with friends, showing one's superiority by teasing others(hard at times!), talking about girls, cursing lecturers, planning to bunk classes, n going out for movies, what not , anything and everything in the world is discussed here. From a stupid silly issue to an amazing and excellent ideas are originated in this very place itself. Its really a place to relax and ease out our tensions(academic or personal), share lighter moments with our dear friends.

This place brings out the creative talents of each one in an attempt to please and make friends happy. All the affairs going on in the campus, all the pretty girls are the hot topics usually in this place. The silly stupid things are discussed for hours n hours and also on the contrary, the terrific ideas which help us to make a mark in our own fields of study takes birth here. The fun we have in this place may not be experienced never ever again in our lives. Thats why we remember all those moments for our life time.

As the bitter truth that the time has finally come for me to leave the portals of the campus, which marks the end of my student life, my mind is filled with many emotions. Really i am gonna miss all this fun... I can(no one can!) never forget these days of my life, and these memories are cherished for ever .

Really the student life is the most enjoyable, purposeful phase in our lives and the campus canteen is the place for fun and frolic...

What will you do?

Just yesterday i was watching a Telugu movie called CHAKRAM(not a new movie, may be 2-3 years old). In the movie Hero comes to know that he has blood cancer just minutes before his marriage!! Being a doctor himself he realizes he has not more than two months left in his life. I am not going to tell the whole story now, thats not my interest here. But what he does in those two months caught my attention.

Little bit of background: In the Flashback, he is a very good, famous doctor in US,and he wants to come back to India and start a super specialty hospital in India for all the poor and needy , everything free of cost. With the help and commitment from some of his colleagues(friends) he comes back to India and proposes the plan to his parents, and to his and everyone's delight they agree and appreciate his plan, and ready to invest in the project! then the marriage scene.....

Having a great ideals of serving the poor, he decides to do something in the two months he has got(because he wont be there when the hospital turns out to be a reality!). He decides that He wants to make people happy , and see a smile in their faces! This is an important dialog he has:
Compared to the problem of dying , all the small, petty problems people have in their lives are very very small. I wanted to start a hospital and serve the poor and see them happy, but now i don't have that much time. So i decided to solve the small problems of these people and make them happy.
He will be solving the problems of people (from kids to elders) n make them happy. What impressed me more was ,the small time he is left with , he wanted to spend time helping others, and wanted to be of some help to others!!

Imagine yourself, rather put yourself in that hero's position.
You know that you have only about 2 months left of your precious life, what will you do in those two months?
  • Will you think of helping others like the hero ?
  • will you just say, man i have only 2 months, let me enjoy the full time all to myself?
  • will you keep grieving over the little time you are left with?
  • will you keep cursing the god for being so unfair to you?

My love.. I shall live no longer...

This is the first ever poem written by me. Hope you like it.

My Love... I shall live no longer...

If not for
the sparkle in your eyes
the magic in your look
the freshness of your breath
my love, I shall live no longer

If not for
the beautiful smile of yours
the sweetness of your words
the innocence in your face
my love, I shall live no longer

If not for
the warmth in your skin
the tenderness in your touch
the honesty in your acts
my love, I shall live no longer

If not for
the compassion you show to me
the joy you bring to me everyday
the completeness you bring to my life
my love, I shall live no longer

A Rare sight indeed!

Those of you who have seen peacocks will agree with me when i say : peacocks are perfect blend of beauty n grace, such a pleasant sight to the eyes! no wonder, anyone who sees it will immediately fall in love with it .. such is its beauty and splendor..

I am very fortunate to be getting a glimpse, not only glimpse but a full close view of that beauty almost everyday in my University : Hyderabad Central University .Usually we see peacocks which are rich in green, violet, golden colors.
The following picture(first one) is taken in our university(thanks to my friend Jai Kumar for this photo).

But a pure white peacock is equally a delight to eyes, with its simple innocent pure delicate white color.

I never knew that white peacocks existed.. only recently (an year back!!)i had a chance of seeing them in Nehru Zoological park, Hyderabad.
